Invertibility in Sequent Calculi

چکیده

The invertibility of the rules of a sequent calculus is important for guiding proof search and can be used in some formalised proofs of Cut admissibility. We present sufficient conditions for when a rule is invertible with respect to a calculus. We illustrate the conditions with examples. It must be noted we give purely syntactic criteria; no guarantees are given as to the suitability of the rules.

Syntactic Conditions for Invertibility in Sequent Calculi

Formalised proofs of Cut admissibility often rely on the invertibility of the rules of a sequent calculus. We will present some sufficient conditions for when a rule is invertible with respect to a calculus, which we illustrate with many examples. Appropriate definitions are given for rarely defined intuitive notions, such as a formula being principal for a rule. It must be noted we give purely...

Thesis Outline : Tools and Techniques for Formalising Structural Proof Theory ∗

Whilst results from Structural Proof Theory can be couched in many formalisms, it is the sequent calculus which is the most amenable of the formalisms to metamathematical treatment. As such, we present some tools and techniques so that formalisations of results in sequent calculi can proceed more smoothly. The proof assistant Isabelle is used, along with the package for reasoning about first-or...

Basic Constructive Connectives, Determinism and Matrix-Based Semantics

(Non-)deterministic Kripke-style semantics is used to characterize two syntactic properties of single-conclusion canonical sequent calculi: invertibility of rules and axiom-expansion. An alternative matrixbased formulation of such semantics is introduced, which provides an algorithm for checking these properties, and also new insights into basic constructive connectives.

Structural focalization (draft)

Focusing, introduced by Jean-Marc Andreoli in the context of classical linear logic, defines a normal form for sequent calculus derivations that cuts down on the number of possible derivations by eagerly applying invertible rules and grouping sequences of non-invertible rules. A focused sequent calculus is defined relative to some non-focused sequent calculus; focalization is the property that ...

Modularisation of Sequent Calculi for Normal and Non-normal Modalities

In this work we explore the connections between (linear) nested sequent calculi and ordinary sequent calculi for normal and non-normal modal logics. By proposing local versions to ordinary sequent rules we obtain linear nested sequent calculi for a number of logics, including to our knowledge the first nested sequent calculi for a large class of simply dependent multimodal logics, and for many ...
